Ten Years Gone Led Zeppelin Cover

Description
I've been messing around a lot with zeppelin songs lately on guitar. I wish I could sing them. I downloaded a midi version of the song and altered it. I'm on the acoustic guitars and attempting the vocals. The intro verse and chorus were removed, it starts right in on the vocals. There is a pause between the verse and the chorus which isn't original to the song and neither the ending which is cut short due the out of range vocals.

Ten Years Gone

think as it was
then again then again it will be
though the course may change sometimes
Rivers always reach the sea

Blind Stars of fortune
each have several rays
on the wings of maybe
down in birds of prey
kind of makes me feel sometimes
didn't have to grow
but as the eagle leaves the nest
has so far to go

Changes fill my time
Baby, that's alright with me
In the midst I think of you
And how it used to be

Did you ever really need somebody
And really need 'em bad
Did you ever really want somebody
The best love you ever had
Do you ever remember me, baby
Did it feel so good
'Cause it was just the first time
And you knew you would

Through the eyes an' I sparkle
Senses growing keen
Taste your love along the way
See your feathers preen
Kind of makes makes me feel sometimes
Didn't have to grow
We are eagles of one nest
The nest is in our soul

Vixen in my dreams, with great surprise to me
Never thought I'd see your face the way it used to be

The
guitars in this are great! Looks like nobody wanted to touch Plant, but I think you did fine. The octave lower vocals work better than I would have guessed, and I like that effect you used.

I started to have some reservations
and wondered if I should have posted this song. It was nice to see some encouragement. Thanks for the listen Sam.... I don't know if you care for zeppelin but I think I know of one that's easier to sing.

it works for me
i think you did a great job on the vocals... what is the use of being a clone since this takes on a whole different sound.
guitar is excellent. super take John.

I'm glad you think that way
I too like to hear a musicians take on a cover. The vocals though were really out of my range even dropping an octave. The phrasing is some how awkward to me and unfortunately due to the fact when I listen to music for some reason hear the vocal melody and the tone of the voice and fails to listen to the lyrics. Thanks for the listen Vic!

This is so impressive, John. Lovely sounding acoustic guitar and some very fine playing. I like your vocals. Tough ask to emulate Plant but your own plaintive take on things works great. The whole package is quality stuff. Thanks.

I appreciate your comments. I wasn't sure about the sound of the composition. I've been using a level plug-in on the master channel lately, for some reason the recent posts seem less dramatic than they use to.

Although it's heresy to say so...
I've never been much impressed by LZ. (Although there are a few tunes I really like.)

This is one of the few. You did a real nice job here bro. KUDOS!

Be well friend!

Micheal
Zeppelin has always been one of my favorites. Page to me is one of those (dirty) guitar players. I've always hoped that I might be somewhat like him in sloppy way. A bass player that I use to be in a band with once mentioned that I was one of those dirty guitar players not a technically apt, precise or a stylish guitarist. He went on to say that many like it that way and there is always a place for one. Thanks for the listen. I'm glad you like this particular song and it's always nice to read your comments.

No quarrel here with page's guitar work,
or with yours for that matter. Just always felt the songwriting wasn't consistently up to par, and rarely liked Mr. Plant's vocalizings. But Zep had its gems that I'm quite fond of like: Babe I'm Gonna Leave You/Dazed And Confused/Immigrant Song/When The Levee breaks; etc. With my deep roots in folk I just found bands like Jethro Tull much more satisfying...

Different strokes...

Thick as a Brick
Has to be my favorite by Jethro Tull. It's one of those albums that was embedded in my memory back when I was a teen. Zeppelin, the Beatles and Yes were always my top three but there's so much music out there it's hard to pick just three. For some reason, Zeppelin has earned my interest here lately. I never played a cover of theirs in a band except for Living Loving Maid. Thanks for the comments Micheal and keep them coming...

Normally
I'm not a fan of covers but this is really well done and gives it new life.

Nice guitar work.

I'm some what like that as well
Lately I've been occupying my mind with working on covers... I guess it gives me a break from my inability to finish an original. I find that I've been having issues remembering things... I think it's mostly due to stress and lack of sleep so I've been playing some of the old tunes I use to do and learning some I wished I had done. I appreciate the listen and your comments.

Never Worry
There's really little point in comparing personal interpretations of a song to the original. Each is its own unique musical statement, John.

Yours has its own charms and works well. You really can't hope for more than that. Your personal expression stands well on its own. ;)
