Lyrics
The Shark of Galway Bay (Declan Finnegan’s Ghost)

Prologue
Well, the waters of the west
Get warmer day by day
And the creatures of the south
Come north in search of prey

And that’s how it came be
That unexpectedly
A bloody great white shark
Found home in Galway Bay

Chapter One - The Loan Shark
Well Finnegan was man
Who had problems with a loan
A shark had lent him cash
But the interest had grown

Finnegan’s only asset
His fathers fishing boat
Which the loan shark would accept
If he could prove that it could float

So off they set to sea, the shark thinking of his fee
He checked it for and aft and from the bilges to the mast
When he looked over the side, the paintwork for to see
He looked into the smile of a mighty shark who had him for his tea

Lets raise a pint of whiskey
And 10 gallons of the dark
To the ghost Declan Finnegan
And his bloody great white shark
Lets raise a pint of whiskey
And let's drink it all the day
To the ghost of Declan Finnegan
And the Shark of Galway Bay

Chapter 2 - The Captain
The Captain of the Guarda
Saw the loan shark as a friend
And asked of Declan Finnegan
Just how he’d met his end

And despite his protestations
Declan led him to the spot
And before the village fleet
The shark he ate the cop

And with mighty cheer their anchors they did haul
The shark they let ‘im bide with his gut full of law
They had a massive party o’er 5 nights and a day
Then they gathered round at Finnegan’s, to hear what he had to say

Chapter 3 - The Great and Glorious
Now free of the evil captain
And his mate the old loan shark
The people of the town
Had cash to throw around

So they built a splendid golf course
The best that could be found
And invited all world leaders
To relax and play a round

So came the great and glorious, counting POTUS in their fold
And set to have a conference, to count up all their gold
Then Finnegan took them sailing to catch something for the dish
Then he fed them one by one to his dirty great big fish

Epilogue
Now as you can imagine
Not everyone was pleased
So Fin and his fishy friend
Faked death and went to sea
They found a Greenland inlet
That Globe had kindly warmed
Where they lured in neo-nazis
To feed to his fish’s spawn

Energy
Hi Philip18, thanks for the comment and I'm glad you enjoyed it. That's good the track has retained some energy, I'm never sure if I've taken all oomph out of a song by the time it's recorded. px

Guilty
Hi DWL, yes it's one of mine, guilty as charged. It's one those songs that pops into your head when you're driving and by the time the journeys done so's the song (pretty much). Wish it would happen more often. Thanks very much for the comment. Px

Whiskey
Hi PeterB7858, this was a fun song to write, but the idea of drinking a pint of whiskey makes me feel a bit queasy, to be honest. On balance though, I love a drink!. I'm glad you enjoyed the track. Thank Px

Tall Tale
Hi Hickling_Stan, thanks for putting a name to the style of this song.. a Celtic shaggy dog tale it is (I'd been wondering how to describe it). I'm glad you like the song. px

Weird
Hi Mike, Thanks for the comment, it's weird how prescient bits of the tune have become. Now, all we have to do is find someone to feed Mr Trump to a shark and all would be groovy. Px

Excellent!
the kick drum (or frame drum?) is great - really drives the tempo, and folds into the bass nicely. The rest is just plain wonderful! My grandpa, James O'Neil would have approved.

loops
Hi Bud, thanks for the comment. The drums are taken from a loop library called Nothing But Brushes by Drums on Demand. They really do fit with my Squire Precision Bass, just fortunate really. (GP Jame's approval is much appreciated too)
Cheers Px

Contempo Celto?
This feels like a traditional tune, but it seems to be original to you? It wonderfully fits in the ballad tradition. Great concept and great execution.

Stories
Hi Vic
The chords and the arrangements have been used a million times over, but they're a great framework building a story on. Kind of like how the Blues is an endlessly reusable formula. These styles come back to life once you have a new story to tell. Thanks for your comment. Cheers Px
