This
is a little different for you, but it sounds so open and "feel good." Lovely recording. It makes me feel exactly like the pic.

Different Time Period
My early years I played guitar & bass in San Fran. The original title is "Don't Give The Dog The Last Hit" I still have all the original tracks, the original bass was a tuned down guitar. The guitar is two tracks, eq'd different panned left/right, that's gives that spacious feel.
A little internet site youtube.com was starting out, when I upload this song. In 2010 I update the video... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5j4tIrOl4k

Last hit
Nice backing track. Are you going to put something on top?

I wonder if the bass isn't a bit very hyperactive.

Hit Me Again!
The gargling guitar line works in the mix. Great work establishing a feel in the mix.
This is a straight forward piece.
So, I guess I could make suggestions?
The bass is too flappy for my ears. Fret buzz is generally acceptable once in a while but I would suggest a more round, dance bass sound on this recording.
For the lead tone perhaps bussing off the highs and exciting them a bit would add some sparkle? The tone is dark, probably exactly what ya wanted, but I am trying to make a more like dance tune feel. Add energy!
Last suggestion and I will shut up. How about some latin hand purcussion to spice the thing up a bit? I want the thing to dance a bit more, not too much though.

The Last Hit
Interesting backstory. Great to hear a song that has survived a number of iterations. Nice easy feel to the chord progression. The fluid, spacey guitar gives it some legs. Thanks, Steve.
