Description
I was born in 1967. I've always felt I was born either 20 years too early or 20 years too late. As a result I've always kind of felt like I'm out of place - stuck in the wrong time. That pretty much sums up what this tune is about.

Nothing out of the ordinary about this one. The bass line was fun to play.

It was a concept I've had for quite a while, but it took some mulling over before I really decided how I wanted the song to sound and feel. More so than a lot of my tunes, this one actually ended up sounding a lot like I thought it would when I started writing it.

Hope you enjoy it no matter what place in time you currently occupy.

1967

I was born in 1967 Em/A7
Just in time for the Summer of Love Em/A7

Never felt right Em
with my place in this world A7

A wannabe Billy Pilgrim C7(omit5)
Stuck in time B7(omit 5)

Don’t really know If I care about living
Only know I don’t want to die

Passing the days
Til I think about something

Warming my hands by the fire
As the world burns down

Sometimes I think about D
the place I am in time C
and wishI could just drift away G
and find myself again Em7

I’d look for that peace of mind D
I’ve never felt before C
And then I’d find my way again G
to nineteen…. sixty seven Em

Tired of this Earth Em
But I don't believe in heaven A7

Still looking for a place
to call my own

There’s plenty of room
But I’m happy going nowhere

Cause deep down inside I know C7(omit 5)
that place is gone B7(omit 5)

Sometimes I think about D
the place I am in time C
and wishI could just drift away G
and find myself again Em7

I’d look for that peace of mind D
I’ve never felt before C
And then I’d find my way again G
to nineteen…. sixty seven Em

I was born in 1967
Wish I coulda been at the Summer of Love

I’d walk on down
And wash in the river

Singing my song again
Til the end of time

Love the growl
in your vocal. Nice harmonies. Does have a "summer of love" vibe. Nice production! Like your stretching of the vocal range! Enjoyed this one!

1967 again some more...
Being reborn in '77 and in '87 and '97 etc. might have made an interesting song hook? I wonder how many folks got yer Billy P reference? That was a brave choice in the lyrics!
There is solid bass playing on this recording. Not a fan of the lead tone sorry, although it is authentic. I was once stuck in an Airport in Pittsburg PA with Paul Cantor and during a long layover there, I thought to ask him about the lead tone on the early Airplane records. He just smiled...
The vocals on here must have been a stretch for you- great work!

Sounds like
you WERE there (but obviously can't remember... Ha ha!) I was---and it's a pretty fuzzy recall. Captures the spirit of the era right well bro!

Be well!

Nailed the vibe, Joe. Reminded me of Traffic and the Airplane so it must be somewhere on the mark. The BGVs work really well. Thanks for the flashback. Take care.

Po-tee-weet...
...I just read Richie Unterberger's compilation book, Jingle Jangle Morning, which I think you might enjoy...he meditates a little in that book about his own 'place in time', having missed the Sixties but being immersed in its music, especially folk-rock...

This has a lot of the High Flying Bird vibe, with nods to the Airplane and Love and everyone who ever did a distorted version of Hey Joe... There are also faint wisps of Crazy Horse in the rhythm-to-lead feel... All in all, a pretty authentic mid-to-late Sixties sound...

I like the lyrics, too...

I remember 1967 very well, the year the Beatles made their Sgt pepper album. I was 13 at the time, changed things for me forever :-)
Cool song with lots of 60-s influences, especially the vocals
very much enjoyed

Cool beans, Joseph
Sounds right in step with the music that melted minds for many years to come. I thought I had been born blessed by time in 1954. Went to Woodstock with my big brother, missed the draft, but not Kent State etc. Still, I figured It worked out pretty well - till it didn't. Sixteen years later, all I think about are my kids, and all the other kids out there. I bet that never changes with time. Good rocking and thinking tune. Thanks, man.
