This was interesting as well as new information to me (and I live in New York City). I knew about the rock 'n roll and other artistic connections to the Chelsea Hotel, but these stories about The Gramercy were new to me. Perhaps I need to get out more?

I learned about The Gramercy firsthand when I was working with The Clash filming their stint at Bond's in 1981. It was quite a scene and very accommodating of the different needs among the band members. We shot a number of scenes in the hotel and it was never an issue. In 1996 The Gramercy hosted an art fair and that was unique for the time.
