Description
Five years ago today I was very fortunate to see a pretty elaborate workshop of one of my musicals. It was only through the blood, sweat, tears, talents and laughs of many people that it was even possible. I've posted some tracks from this show here before at macjams but this tune is somewhat special to me. I had written the music many years before my writing partner and I sat down to work on this show. The music for this tune came from the first musical I attempted to write way back when I was 15. It some how made it into this piece more than 10 years later. This song is the finale of the first act.

Bryan Pitt and Sheila Addis are featured on vocals; William Walker is featured on piano. To all involved with that production - THANK YOU!

Lyrics
Have you ever wished on a star
That you could find someone, and share who you really are?
Have you ever wanted to say good night to someone, who'd be
there when you awoke the next day?
I've searched this galaxy,
Turned over every star you see,
Waiting for my someone who'd lay down their life...
For me.

Have you ever cried out your name
In the hopes your someone was doing the very same?
Have you ever knelt down to pray
That you could stay with someone,
who'd be there as your blue eyes turned gray?
I've searched this galaxy, turned over every star you see,
Waiting for my someone who'd lay down their life...
For me.

I've searched this galaxy,
Turned over every star you see,
Waiting for my someone who'd lay down their life...
For me.

There's just some wounds that time can't heal.
We wished we liked them more, but that's not how we feel.
This hate runs deep into our bones.
If we live our lives as one, I think I will explode.
This plan might work, but I won't work this out.
Peace and brotherhood, tell me what's that all about.
For the sake of my children, I might let this slide.
Asteroids ahead, hold on and enjoy the ride.

Together forever, we will always be.
Let freedom ring from sea to shining sea.
There will be plenty of everything and we'll sing,
We're free.

I've searched this galaxy,
Turned over every star you
see, Waiting for my someone who'd
lay down their life for me.
We're free!

Thank you, Mcboy for your generous comments! Your comments carry mad weight with me, especially since you've got some crazy mad skillz!

Sorry about the lyrics... didn't have enough time. I'll try to put them up later today...

Hey Gio
It's good to hear something from you again even if it is an older song,
it's still timeless, right? It must have been a trill to see your music
come to life on the stage.

Hey Gio
Hey Z - thanks for the shout-out... It was a total thrill to see it come to life... but it is also a little difficult to see the flaws so clearly. Unfortunately, with theatre, most times the only way you can find out what's not working is to produce it!

Your show tunes...
place me in the front row of the auditorium every time. And this one is no exception... so alive with "visual" vocal and instrumental performances. This is a wonderful treat on this rainy day here in southern CA.

Your show tunes...
thanks Dadai! I'm glad you got something from this tune on your rainy day. Of
course you're lucky you weren't in the front row of this show - could blow
your ear drums out! Our sound folks were not used to the rock-musical scene
and were putting there amps to 11 - if you know what I mean!

Passing startships in the night
Love the changes, the soaring quality of the chord progression (altho I
think the piano intro is a bit too long), the way it lifts as the line gathers
complexity, and then sets you back down. I imagine two people singing
on different starships, passing in the night. I dig how the arrangement
gathers momentum, too. I wish I know what the "There's just some
wounds" stanza was about, the context. And I wish the West End would've
have produced this. Would have loved to hear the mature Gio rework the
genius piece of his youth. I especially the count down section, when the
organ kicks in and it gets more Prog. We should collab on a prog rock
piece together... and if it works, right a musical afterward!

Passing startships in the night
tobin- thanks for the comments... yes I totally agree, the piano intro is way too
long... especially in this context! "There's just some wounds" is where the rest
of the cast voices their opposition to this strained agreement *insert long story
here*... I would've loved to have seen a West End production, but I realize that
the piece wasn't really ready... it needs to be rewritten.
Prog collab??? count me in! i have some ideas... :)
