Granular Politics (stereo)

 Genre: Political

This is a stereo version of a piece I wrote for one of my groups at uni. Inspired by a few ideas including masks/lies and sounds revealing themselves over time... I came out with this little piece that describes reasonably well what I think of the two main politicians in my life.

It seems that everything is either so convoluted and complex that the truth of what they are doing never shines through, or in a small moment it reveals their incompetance, power-mongering and loyaties.... all of which depress me a little more.

All sounds in this piece are derrived from the 4 samples clearly heard. There is also a surround sound version of this piece.

Bryan, this is a stunning piece of political commentary as well as art.
The sound fluttering by, revealing bits of the words a little at a time
created a very unsettling effect and forced me to focus and pay
attention to what was being said, which so often we don't do. The
spaces between the clearly intelligible audio really effectively evoked
the discomfort so many of us feel about our current leaders.

I think this is so good that it would be interesting to see you work with
a visual or conceptual artist to create a larger installation around the
idea of truth revealing itself over time, using this piece as the audio

Really, I'm very impressed.

Thanks for the comment Lisa, glad you found it interesting! Interestingly
enough I've shown this to a couple of other people already and their reaction
seems to change depending on whether they see the picture first or read the
description. Ignore the description and suddenly everything said relates to
what looks like is about to happen in the picture :P

The installation idea is interesting too... I've got this next semester off uni so
I need to find some stuff like that to keep me busy at the least... installations
also work great with the whole Quad thing too.

Thanks for listening!

I agree with ledebutant's comments. I love the way you warped those samples. This is great.

Excellent concept!
The songpic got me going for a start - this is so apparently simple
(although I'm sure complex in execution) and so incredibly effective -
I'm with Lisa, a video installation with this could be quite amazing.
"Special George" for sure!

Excellent concept!
I agree, the songpic is gold! And as I said with Lisa, it can actually change the
focus of the piece into something quite humourus which is cool too. And
you're pretty right... the process I did to create everything was actually pretty
simple using only a delay loop and a granulator plugin... but at the same time
took a fair bit of time to perfect particularly because everything had to be
done in reverse and then played backwards at the end to get everything to
sound right.

Thanks for the listen Neil!

Now that's just twisted...
And the truth is much stranger than fiction - But what to do when you
have two fictional characters - Certainly, we try not to emulate them -
So just how did you do this - Kinda creepy, but at least it seems, that
our cowboy is gonna loose his favorite horse - too bad that he got to
all of the good hey first, though... - Thanks, Brian

Very inventive. Cool stuff. I like how you slowed down the "Brownie" quote
to make Bushy sound even more hick-ish.

This could serve as the intro soundscape to a conspiracy theory movie...
something like 911loosechange. I dig it.
