Procession for Paula and Jason

Description
This is a piece I've just finished for a wedding of a friend of mine. It is the procession into the ceremony. I had a little trouble composing this since she really wanted guitar in the orchestration and I wasn't sure that I could make it fit while keeping it simple.

I do, heh!
I'd get married to that!

I'm curious to know about the process for this one.
Sure, you've got to make a song that the bride and
groom approve of, but do they tell you things like
how long it needs to last or other cues that need to
be hit in the song?

Great work, by the way!

I do, heh!
This one's a little tricky since the bride and groom are using this recording
for the entrance. Most times I hand over the score to whatever musicians
they're having and then the timing is mostly their problem. I do try and
envision the participants coming in to get a rough estimate. With this, I have
a list of the people walking down. So I estimated. I envision the bride
making her way at the build into the guitar/oboe section...

Gorgeous
Really beautiful. Not much more I can say, except this is one to listen to in the bath with the lights off.

very sweet and perfect for a wedding
This is the first classical/orchestral piece I've heard from
you, and it's a very well-constructed and pleasant tune
indeed. Nice change of pace (although I love your show
stuff too).

I think you should get this one published. It's PERFECT for
weddings!

My only suggestion would be to bring up the nice guitar
sound in the mix a bit; it seems to be the main solo
instrument although the oboe is a nice counter-melody.

Very, very pleasant song! It could also easily go in the New
Age/acoustic genre, too.

Camero, thanks for your comments and suggestions. I'll play a little with the level of the guitar... do you think though that the guitar sort of repeats itself too much to be the center focus throughout?

Upon listening to this again, I think that both the oboe and the guitar share
the melodies fairly equally, with perhaps the oboe having the slight edge. The
guitar does have some repeated figures but I still think that it should be more
prominent in the mix.

The flute sound could also be given to the oboe instead....the flute seemed
not to fit the texture quite as well as the other instruments. And if you
publish this, it will be one less musician to hire! <lol>

good point about the number of required musicians!

I totally agree that the flute's texture doesn't match the rest of the mix. I
think I may need to find a new flute sound... I was using the pop flute but I
don't think its cutting it! And your right... the oboe can cover most of the
flute notes anyway... I'll have to re-evaluate.

Thanks Cameron!

Wedding Season
I have to go to a wedding in a couple of weeks and
no one asked me to do a song for them? Now I know
why, that was beautiful. I like the guitar as is but
Cameron might be right. Good to here something
new from you.

By the way...
...have you transcribed this piece note-for-note, with all
the instrumental parts, in case you *DO* want to publish
this? Just curious. I really think you should publish this
piece; it's excellent and has universal appeal and is
perfect for weddings.

I compose with the music notation software "Sibelius"
which works great!

By the way...
I haven't yet transcribed this piece... I also use Sibelius... but what I normally do (to save time) is take a midi performance and import it into Sibelius... and then of course go back through and fix the transcription (which can actually be more work sometimes than starting from scratch). Though in this case since I've done it completely in GB, I'm not sure that there's a way to export it as a midi file to import it into Sibelius!

I haven't tried to publish anything before. Do you know of a publisher? Thanks again Cameron! I'll have to change the flute part into a French horn part!!!

Bravo!
I am inspired. Thank you for doing that.

oughew!
This is Sweet!
Really like it!
I wonder if there was any direction from the Bride or
Groom..... "We'd like it to sound like this", or did you do it
all by yourself ?

It is very 'Down the Asile' E kind of mellow sound!

some suggestions
maybe try an alto flute and give it a lower melody line to
contrast with all the stuff happening higher up; also,
thinning out the number of instruments in general
probably wouldn't be a bad thing. Sometimes
less is more, and in this case, I think it would be better to
be able to hear everything more clearly.
I wouldn't recommend simply adding another oboe or
putting in a french horn for the flute part.
Very nice piece otherwise.
