Lyrics
Peddlin' sensations,
That swept the nations,
We're back to get into your mind.

We'll hunt you down,
We'll be in your town.
'Cuz we're that way inclined.

It 'ain't easy,
But it 'ain't that hard.
Livin' sleazy,
The jokers our favourite card.

Long way home.
How the hell did I get here anyhow?
It's a long way home.
Hey, anybody know where we parked the bus?

Might think it's funny,
But believe us honey,
We ain't got a whole lot to lose.

We'll be playin' all night,
Doin' stuff that's outta sight.
It's the only path we choose.

It 'ain't easy,
No- you know it's not that hard.
Livin' sleazy,
Hey, Shakespeare - he's bard! :o)

hahahahahaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!
i get first post!!!
all i used was my vocal mic... mxl990...
the rest is all apb.
final mx was really simple. i tried to keep it as live as possible, and i think it worked out really nice.. great song, alan, and great playing all around!
apb said 4185 days ago (May 31st, 2007)
:o)
.. you were anxiously awaiting it's arrival, that's how you get to be first. It's so greatly improved with your vocals I fell off my chair, I really couldn't have wished for a better result, and you did such a great job of mixing in your vocals onto the stage - I had simply nothing left to do but post. Awesome, thanks again. We'll need to do something that takes itself a touch more serious sometime. Take a bow.

I hadn't heard the original...
So I went back and listened to it. Both versions rock, but it's way better with vocals. Very cool song. Fits in with the 80s arena rock genre perfectly. Reminds me of an old Christian band I used to listen to called Guardian. Honestly the lyrics are stupid and cheezy, but they do fit in well with the genre. This is the perfect song for Rad's voice. Cool guitar solo too. I didn't even notice the solo on first listen because it's so unassuming.

...
Thanks Aaron. Yeah, it really badly needed vocals and I was
just thrilled that R.A.D. took me up on my offer - I was
kinda fishing with the previous post .. and I too thought this was something that would suit his fantastic voice.

Ah, the lyrics .. my fault :o) .. well they 'ain't Shakespeare hahaha. Just a bit of fun and in-keeping with the genre .. er .. ish. RAD's delivery just gives them such conviction.

Glad you dug the unassuming late 70's soloing too.

Rock!
Wow - i dunno what i was expecting, but not this. Grrreat mix on this, the guitars sound nice n raw, and the vocal is real pro. Reminds me a bit of bon jovi, got a real upbeat energy.

He's bard - HAH!

Rock on

sounds "live"
great job mixing the audience in!
i think r.a.d. could sing just about anything, so it's a no-brainer there.
the song itself really lends itself to the whole "arena rock" genre.
killer collab you two!
apb said 4179 days ago (June 6th, 2007)
Thanks alot Faelin
..seems we almost caught a few people out with the "liveness". I'd actually thought of adjusting the crowd a little post vocals to create a little more
dynamic to r.a.d.'s dialog with the crowd but we decided to leave that sort of tweaking for later. Yup, I can agree with ya - r.a.d. could very well sing just about anything, as could I, but in his case, it would sound fantastic :o) He's a bit good (as they say in Scotland) :o)

Big Balls Rock
I can picture you wearing assless chaps like diamond dave in his heyday...
sweating on a rock n roll stage shaking your ass with eyeliner and lipstick on
later backstage drinking copius amounts of JD, naked big haried girls running around....

I just wanted to add that the guitar and vocals are killer!

way cool
I wasn't payin close attn at first and got fooled thinking it was really a live recording. Great job to both of you. The music rocked and the vocals carried it home. Left me with thought of old Petra concerts.
apb said 4179 days ago (June 6th, 2007)

thanks! The vocals did bring this up considerably. "Petra" I not heard of, was just a famous dog in a long running UK children's programme called "Blue Peter" - I'll need to check out the comparison.

Thanks again Shimky!
.. I sometimes get so close to 'playing it straight' and then
I just can't help myself and go a bit mad at the end. r.a.d. is a real pro and didn't even bat an eye-lid. That era and genre did produce some pretty ridiculous lyrics, so in some respects it's not as 'out' from that as one may first think but admittedly a little disjointed :o) .. oh, look my nose is smaller than yours. lol.

DO YA WANNA ROCK-ANN-ROLLL???
Score one for MacJams Radio... I heard this playing on the homepage and just had to check it out. Wow, what a tune... brought back glorious, heady memories of the Big 80s. Big hair, big egos with big guitars, women in leather jackets and 'party' was a full-time occupation!

By the way, the lyrics are perfect. "The joker's our favourite card" nails the era, the genre, the attitude... and I love the "anybody know where we parked the bus?"
apb said 4179 days ago (June 6th, 2007)
Cool!
Glad to hear you heard it from MJ radio and had to pop in for a comment, appreciate it. I just read from your artist's page you have a soft spot for bagpipes, I'd thus be flattered if you gave this upload of mine a listen: Minister's daughter as it features a friend of mine playing highland bagpipes (and it was tricky to get his playing from the key of Bb to A but we managed with a bit of GB jiggery-pockery) PLUS the MJer Didge-ache on didgeridu, with me doing the rest.

Estella said 4180 days ago (June 5th, 2007)
LOL
who said the lyrics were not good? they're genius parody! You just need a verse about those hairy ladies.

Well, I agree with everybody who said r.a.d.'s voice is perfect. I'll have to go see what else he does. Alan, you couldn't have asked for better on this piece.

And your guitar is gorgeous, as I mentioned in your earlier post, probably. 80's arena rock is not my genre, but I recognize your superior talent ; )

Very funny piece. What a creation. Great job, the both of you!
Check out my latest song called Insomnia
apb said 4178 days ago (June 7th, 2007)
Thank you Estella
.. you do say the nicest things - go easy on the genius and superior stuff though :o) The lyrics are of a course a bit tongue in cheek, but actually if you did listen to more 80's arena rock, you'ld find quite a few examples of pretty funny lyrics. "I wanna put my log in your fireplace" from KISSs "Animalize" album being one of my favourite examples :o)

I couldn't agree more with ya about r.a.d. - he was THE man
for this, spot on and this piece really needed the elusive singer that had wandered into the crowd before :o)

My guitars: shucks, I'm glad you like 'em .. I like your songs and singing too *blushes* ;o)

Be well my friend.

Big sound Alan ...
... and big tonsils r.a.d.! Must be hard to do the big "stadium sound" in GB, but you pulled it off very well indeed.

apb said 4178 days ago (June 7th, 2007)
Actually ..
.. "you know it 'ain't that hard" ...lol. It was playing with the stadium/arena rock reverb in the echo mastering thingy-my-bobbers .. and .. the next trick was to put the band on the stage .. the drums needed to be reverbed like that a bit locally before the overall track got the treatment. The r.a.d. did a nice trick of panning 2 duplicates of the .mp3 hard L and R and this really helped create a stage sound source and left room in the stereo field for squeezing in the vocals, which he reverbed in a similar fashion to me.
Viola! :o) Thanks Neil.

apb said 4178 days ago (June 7th, 2007)
Thanks Tim
.. definitely will be trace AC/DC influence in my rockier numbers, although I did think this was a bit more the glammy sub-genre (as Tom points out), anyways, glad you liked our efforts. That crowd noise is a best of the loop that comes with GB v3.- with a few automation points, bob's your auntie and etc. :o)

Cheers David ..
.. I meant to tell you, I checked out those Turin Brakes songs you mentioned on another post - I liked 'em all: I thought
in "Underdog" he sounded a bit Jamiroquai-esque and in the other two "Mind over money" and "Feeling oblivion" quite Radiohead/Muse style in the chords and vocal melodies - bands which I like - although, a more folky Radiohead of course in
"Feeling oblivion" - it was that one that I could hear some similarities to some of my material. Wow .. well flattered by the comparison.

70's
Whoa, Late 70's arena rock is not dead. Love the doubled noodling leads. R.A.D's vox are out of sight. The bass drum is a little light for my tastes, but a small quibble for an excellent mix. Very Boston breaks out of Bean Town. Nice.

..it's 'alive' and well ;o) and I agree, r.a.d.'s always "doin' stuff that's outta sight", it was great to have him
on board... terrible memory though, I mean, how do you lose a tour bus? I ask you .. ;o) - thanks for the heads-up on the
bass drum (it's partly these cans, always giving more bass) - I'll add it to list of final tweaks.

Norman Goodman said 4174 days ago (June 11th, 2007)
Awesome
This is absolutely incredible. I loved it!!!!!
I was a little dimayed at the length as I wanted the song to go on longer.
I also would have gone for a more defined harmony guitar part on the solo.
But my comments are much like that of an armchair quarterback because I never in thousand lifetimes write anything this good!!!!
Check out my latest song called Love Devotion Surrender
apb said 4174 days ago (June 12th, 2007)
Thanks alot Norman
very glad you enjoyed this. Ah yes, the length - it could be doing with one more verse and chorus after the solo, but
er.. well .. welcome to my laziness :o)

..and thanks for the suggestions: I must confess the tiny 3 note harmony was actually a fortunate mistake in the doubled part, I've never thought about putting more harmony into it really as I was trying to give the illusion of just two guitars *live* and one switches to just rhythm in the second part of the solo. I mention above how I've since remembered that repeated part *did* have a bit more variety to it and was very slightly more elaborate than I played here, since this was a tune I wrote ages ago, I forgot .. it's actually perfect (I think) for two distinct guitarists to solo .. one starts then switches to rhythm as the other takes over .. and we did toy with the idea of r.a.d. weilding his axe a bit in this too .. but then we just went *nah* before any notes were struck ..

there is always room for the 'vintage' studio version......

Yeah
Good idea. You cats could really go to town embelling this.
BTW, the overall the sound reminds me of UFO..... Michael Schenker is a personal fave

that's a very nice compliment, thanks .. I resemble that remark .. I do like a bit of UFO from time to time :o)

Now you mention it .. we *could* do a pretty good "Too Hot
To Handle" or "Only You Can Rock me" .. with a bit a duelling
.. we might manage to do "Doctor Doctor" .. s'all good
stuff ..the youngies won't know about them I expect.

Was it that kinda vintage studio sound you were thinking
of r.a.d.?

..funny you mention C.C./Poison .. I think that D,C#,B,A,G#,A,B run is something I heard from early an
early Poison track... bit of a mix of Kiss, Poison, UFO ..
alot of my rock/metal influences.

influences on sleeves this one... as such, the other Allen (the r.a.d. project) was perfect singer for this and played the part perfectly as frontman for the 'fake live' experiment.
