Special Relativity

Description
Introducing another sparkling new recording of an old song I wrote. This one was the last song I wrote before I put down the metaphorical writing pen for 15 years.

Here it is, finally, in all its glory- featuring a backwards, wah-wah psychedelic guitar solo courtesy of Harrison Sherwood, the only part of the song I didn't play or program myself.

Lyrics
Albert Einstein had it right.
If we live at the speed of light,
We'll tick off seconds as the decades pass.
If we slow down, we cannot last.
You have to appreciate the gravity-
Try to look at my little plan objectively.
Moving clocks run slow!
(We know) An example of special relativity.
Oh won't you come and ride with me?
(We'll be) An example of special relativity.
Think how happy we could be
At a decent percent of C.
Time for the countdown to our rebirth.
We could live longer than the earth.
There'll always be a place in space to live
But whether it's us or them is relative.
Moving clocks run slow!
(We know) An example of special relativity.
We'll head out to another star!
(We are) An example of special relativity.
You have to appreciate the gravity-
Try to look at my little plan objectively.
Moving clocks run slow!
(We know) An example of special relativity.
If one by one the stars go out
(No doubt) An example of special relativity
On where you are this all depends
(This ends) Our illustration of special relativity!

They Might Be Giants?
This tune has They Might Be Giants written all over it. I
love TMBG and think this song is something they might
do. All you need is an accordian, ha! This song is pretty
cool.

Being a physics major, I appreciate the literal rather than
metaphorical side of this tune. Downloading immediately!

Thanks For the Comments and Votes
Thanks for all the comments, everybody. I'll take
comparisons to the Cars, TMBG, Devo, etc. as a
compliment!

Actually, the Cars comparison hadn't ever occured to me,
but now that you mention it, I think I can hear the
resemblance a little.

Pop-Punk? I like that genre name...

I think the term is New Wave
Used to do a lot of this sort of stuff in the 80's - I can
hear Cars in here, also Devo of course, maybe Wall of
Voodoo in the vocals - you and Troy should try some
duets sometime. Was in my late teens / early twenties
when this stuff was going on. Great example of genre, fun
somewhat educational lyrics that tie in nicely w/ new
wave.

Moving the clock back...
After transferring out of a Music Composition major in
college, I went into physics. Einstein has always been
one of my saints. Glad to know I'm not the only one that
uses Special Relativity as a metaphor. The whole Devo
thing is so great. I smiled all the way through. The
energy never lets up, with perfect rhythmic playing and
arrangement. Nice use of the fun and funny rhyming
patterns. The whole thing has this great post-modern
surreal naturalness.

This is great!
I'm a big fan of retro 80's new wave music. Your voice
works very well in the track, too, it's got that sound of
pure enjoyment singing the lyrics which are quite fun, too.
I could see this ending up with Bill Nye the Science Guy,
heh!

Primo new wave
Yes, all the comparisons are accurate (except maybe
TMBG, altho the lyrics . . . ). I also thought of the Knack.

Wonderful chorus hook. Big finish. You nailed it.

Geek Rock
I love Relativity metaphores too. I find quantum physics
and philosophy go great togeather. The music is great,
too; slick and catchy.

Fun stuff
I enjoyed all these New Wave sounding songs as that's
what I was into growing up. If these had been recorded
back in the day they could have been hits. I'm glad you
recorded these as it's good to get songs out of you and
into the world where they belong. Nice playing and
singing and it all works together nicely.

Fun stuff
Thanks! I really did feel like these songs needed a proper sendoff into the world.
Now that I've got them all recorded, I can turn my attention to some brand-new
stuff.

I just completed my CD, which is now available on my website. It was recorded and mixed entirely in Garageband. I've been playing guitar since 1979, and started writing songs around 1981. I was in a band in college called *Batteries Not Included, wh... [see more]
