Description
An oldie drone piece that I'm reposting with no changes. Except for a bass synth, a couple of percussive elements, and the ending, all sounds are made with an electric guitar, with volume pedal, echo, and hold, using a Boss GT-8. The "beating" effect comes from the interplay of the volume pedal and the rep rate on the echo. Very little mucking around in Logic for this one. I recorded everything in about an hour, did some minor mixing work, and that was it. I hope you like it. You might have heard it already. I'm adding it "for the record."

Still
as succulent as ever and an iPod favourite. That you made this using a guitar is so impressive. Still gives me the "Soft Machine" vibe. It's truly beautiful piece of music and I'd love for you to develop the last section, making it ten minutes longer.

Dava
That's a very nice compliment that you would like a longer version. Maybe I will try something like it again. I think there is a lot of potential in the electric guitar ambient style.

Hi Duane.....
This is truly wonderful. I know that i'll be playing this over and over (and over).......

It almost inspires me to.......Ha ha.

I agree with Dave that it would be wonderful if lengthened somewhat.

Take care.

Paul!
So nice to see that you're still frequenting MJ. If I knew what to do to inspire you to recommence your top work in space ambient music, I would do it. Thanks very much. Hope all's well. Take care.

Lovely!
Warm, calming, interesting and inventive use of a guitar. Very nice, and I like your artwork too. Especially the way it moves ;-)

this kind of "music of the spheres". So chill-out that if you listen too long, you'll be frozen in place with a smile on your face. :)

oh yeah
another awesome ex_Silentio ambient beauty for my iPod. how did I miss this when you originally posted it? I am always completely amazed by people who can take their instruments and get such incredible sounds from them through the use of toys and computers and all that stuff. i LOVE that you do! this is gorgeous. you have such patience in your music - slowly letting the layers unfold, giving it all time to manifest fully in its own way.

Patience
Yes, and I appreciate yours. Not much happens in drone music, which makes it difficult -- for both the composer and the listener. This isn't authentic drone, since it goes through a few chord changes but it's about as close as I'm brave enough to post. So glad that you liked it.

Peace.
This number puts me in a peaceful place. You bring some wonderful sounds out of your toys and use them exquisitely to affect an atmosphere that is palpable. Your patient care is evident in the mix. Nice.

a nice bit of drone
admitedly I've not listened to much drone outside of Stars of the Lid, but this is really beautiful. I'm inspired to see what else I can do with my guitar.

Hi Doug
We see so little of you. I hope you are working up another DS extravaganza. I'm glad you liked this. Confidentially (heh), this is my favorite piece of work by Ex. It just sits well with me. I don't expect others to agree with me, but there it is anyway. Always appreciate your input.

This song is absolutely beautiful
This puts in my mind images of the movie 2001 A Space Odyssey, flying through space watching the planets move. Tranquil, calming, but also a nice hint of darkness in there, especially towards the end.

it took a couple of minutes to grab me but then those guitar pings got me and then the bass beat came in to add some contrast. this is very hypnotic. i really like the final section where those individual synth sounds come in and then the strings get panned out all over the place. head-filling trip.
