Lyrics
Huh?

Forget about the things that lie on your back
Just lay back and chew the fat
Tiptoeing through the underbrush
Don’t stand low and don’t let go
Vegifying on a sofa bed
Thank God, you’re as good as dead

When the cement has hardened your eyes
Don’t tell lies and turn a smile
Shampoo traded for a cigarette
No respect, you lose the bet

Rasputin lies on a easy chair
The Romanovs, they hide everywhere
Your faith has abandoned you
Tell the truth, it lies in you

We have all the finest traits
Don’t you hate the United States

Huh?
Now there's that signature lavalamp sound. Cool trippy tune. I know this probably isn't what you were going for. But this has an early Blue Oyster Cult feel. Your vocal is very similar to Eric Bloom. And the vocal production (either the double tracking or the delay you're using) add to that character. And the clean rhythm guitar sound is very much like the one they used in "She's As Beautiful as A Foot" and the "The Last Days of May." The lead guitar sound also has that jazz meets rock tone from "The Last Days of May."

Boy am I showing my age!

I'll take that. Vox only has a bit reverb slap back thing on it. Thanks for the comments.

Trippy
I'm with Andrew - even if it wasn't the mood you were going for, I get a real trip vibe from this one. I like how everything is well-represented in the stereo field. I wish the guitars could have been a little more beefy, but since I have no idea how to accomplish that technically I really should keep that critique to myself!

I did like the multi-tracking thing that happened with the drums in some spots (whether it was stacking two loops up L-R or just applying a bit of slapback effect to your drum track). The fact that you chose a Stewart Copeland-esque loop to go with your song gets bonus points from me as I'm a fan. Thanks for sharing this one!
lavalamp said 3336 days ago (July 30th, 2010)
Hey
The drums took tons of tweaking and glad you heard that Copeland sound. I was actually going for that.

Glad you dug the song.

Yeah,
I'm not sure what you're writing about but it is angst ridden, for sure. I listened and could have have listened to more, so you had me spellbound. :)

Doesn't
seem like 5 whole weeks since you posted. I think with this song you just discovered a new kind of Jazz. Very interesting runs on the guitar with that racy beat and your own special kind of vocal make this very good listening, cheers M

wish the guitars on this were a bit more full and the reverb or slap back on the vox was dialed back a bit.. i like the song overall... good summer jam....

I need to take it easy on that. I had experimented with the guitar, but I thought I'd just keep it clean for once.

Thanks

Huh?
Cool LL song! I really like the relaxed guitar phrasing. Of course the lyrics and vocals are really interesting. I've read through them twice and have a couple ideas as to what you're getting at and I'm sure all of them are wrong.

Good stuff.

Woah!
Straight in there!
Super interesting - you musical scientist.
Cool laid back vocals. As this bops along I'm getting into it and liking it more and more. 2nd listen will be killer.
I think you should do a collab with egobandit when he's back up and running. Your combined styles would be interesting.
Nice one

Very sophistcated movement here
yet still trippy and slippery the way I like it. Cool guitar break at 1:11. Your playing is really sounding great these days. Vox too.

Nice
Great vibe in this one. I do agree the vocals sound a bit distant with the effects but all a matter of taste. Sounds good as is. You vocal sounds a little like Jagger in "Shattered" at times in this. Enjoyed it!
