Description
Time for something highbrow! This was written for Groucho by Harold Arlen and Yip Harburg (yup, the same boys that wrote "Somewhere Over the Rainbow") and he sang it in the motion picture "A Day at the Circus" (1937). This (believe it or not) is a much requested song (well, maybe not with this particular crowd--it all depends on the room you are playing to maybe)--everybody knows the title, but nobody knows the lyrics (and they are hauntingly beautiful, let me tell you!)

Thanks again,

Michael

Did I hear Farina singing backup in dere? I guess that was in the contract!

Oh your voice just puts me in such a good mood. What a terrific song, and when it's sung so beautifully, that's where the awe-factor sets in with me. Top notch & always amazing!

Actually, I had a very rough time with this deal (I did it last year) trying to keep that Groucho voice. Doing Groucho talking is one thing, but emulating his singing is something else! Thanks again--you take care now! Michael

"An encyclo-piddia"... always loved this song and its curvy rhymes (ok, this is only the 3rd time in my life I heard it, but I still love it), and you re-created it perfectly. Kudos to your arranger again, too!

Boy, you put up with a lot from me (and verily, I did change my profile picture as per my quotidian custom!) Well, that may be the last from me for a bit as (fortunately and really good news--although I think I hear some collective sighs of relief out there from those who view my contributions as something of an errant sacrilege here), my job is going full time! Couldn't come a moment sooner either, let me tell you! Thanks again--you are such a wonderful support and good friend. Take care now, Michael

Hi Mike!
Let's see, I've done this one now, and "Chinese Laundry Blues"--I don't know what I'll come up with next but I'm always working on it! Thanks very much for the kind words, for listening, and for all your support (ps: I prefer "vintage" over "antiquated" to be honest with you--antiquated sounds like something you'd polish regularly with Brass-O or something, yanno?)

Only tattoo I've ever had came out of a bubble gum packet. Although I do have a heavily pierced forehead.
This sounds great. And I think you delivery and final mixing/production skills are Amazing. Can't be easy to get these tunes to sound like they originated from the era they first appeared... I believe you know what you are doing!

"I believe you know what you are doing!" You'd be surprised Ted, you'd be surprised! Thanks for tagging along with me on this old stuff I do--I always appreciate and enjoy hearing from you (and I don't know about you--but in 62 minutes I will be off joining the denizens of our favorite mode of primitive transportation--bluck!) Take care Ted! Photobucket Michael

Hi Michael
Yanno, event though I kind of feature myself as a self-proclaimed music maven regarding the older songs, I myself thought perhaps Harry Ruby wrote this (Ruby wrote many of the early Marx Brothers songs). Not only that, it was written by probably my favorite songwriter Harold Arlen (so I'm even more ashamed that I did not know this--it baffles science sometimes!) Thanks for dropping in for your kind words sir--take care now Michael

In-character, and so adroitly rendered
Michael, I was just thinking of your catalog -- all of it -- and thinking of going back to double-comment on a well-trod theme you inspire: how you bring lightness and sunshine to a world filled with too many sad strings of the heart. You have replaced my Cole Porter Songbook cover-CDs as the go-to when I need an infusion of Joy. Turns out that while I was out of town, you popped this new one up... Yay! What an incredible, indelible song, delivered in-character and adroitly so as ever, for which I thank you.

High Marx.
Only Nancy Reagan -- and my dog -- could say no to an offer like that. But Saran wrap can sure dull the senses (at least once the asphyxia sets in). So I hope youll settle for knowing that you just filled my empty house with echoing, bellowing laughter.
