Ynys Enlli

Eight minutes long. I hope you can find the time. I've spent a while on this and I'm not sure about the mix, [never am!] any crits would be very welcome, because this one means a lot to me. There are nine tracks altogether, a mixture of Omnisphere, Zebra 2, Dimension and the updated version of Crystal sofsynths.

Ynys Enlli is a small island off the coast of North Wales, where I spent a very happy two and a half years. It's a special place, some say magical. I certainly found it so, the tune is my homage.

Happy Christmas everyone!

Wow, this really is beautiful. I think the mix is superb, the sounds you used blend together wonderfully. Surely a keeper for me. Happy Holidays!

simply gorgeous
dave this is stunning. so so so warm and enveloping. i love all of your sound choices and the simple melody is beautiful. there is a fluidity to this piece, i think because of the slightly different timing of the chord changes in each track. it's almost like a round. definitely one of your best works, in my opinion. really well done.

Hi Dave.....
Another one of your best. Arranged perfectly and the sounds chosen compliment each other.

Eight minutes seemed such a short time whilst I listened.

Take care.

Great sounds
You have some great vst's there, and you have used them well. Love the space and depth in the track as well as the twinkly leads. Nicely done Dave.

this is
so nice. i could listen to it for 16 minutes; would actually be really nice with a symphonic treatment: horns, strings, etc...

beautifully done, no critiques actually.

Thank you good people.
One reply for all this time. I'm not so sure anyone gets reply notifications for these. I never do when I post a comment about a song and the artist replies, maybe I have something set wrong, I can't figure it out.

Anyway, your comments have been very kind. But listening to this mix, I've noticed a few little mistakes which passed me by in my rush to get it finished by Christmas. Maybe you don't, but then, It's imprinted on my brain now. So I may just pull this down and repost a new mix in the next day of two. I wish you could just re-upload a new version, but you can't. I do appreciate all the kind comments, thanks!

I'd really love to get back to Enlli one day, but sadly it hasn't happened yet.

Hi Dave
This is truly beautiful, and very davajonah with that harplike sound and all. I have not been to Ynys Enlli myself, but I went by train across the northen coastline of Wales in the days, stopping to see the small cathedral in Bangor and to walk up the hill at Llandudno - which was really great, (and looks rather like the island in the picture above). No time to stop at the station with the world's longest name, though... (Llanfairfechan... etc isn't it?) So, much enjoyed, both in a musical sense and for the "time travelling".

Take care,

P.S. Is Crystal updated so it can be used with Intel processors now? I am thinking of upgrading my trusty old PM G5, 5,5 years old, to a 27" iMac, so...

Is there a
choir of angels in residence on Ynys Enlii to sing its praises? Sounds majestic and spiritual. I think you conveyed your love of the place. Thanks for the reverie and the escape into an aural heaven.

It certainly
sounds 'magical' Dave. The opening synths give that sound that suggests majesty and space as in the hills, mountains and Valleys of Wales; the vocal synth gives me the impression of lost souls wandering all the open and wild places...... beautifully haunting and a lovely 'homage' to a special place..... cheers M

sounds fantastic Dave
BIG, expansive sounds - rich and full. How does one spend 2 and a half years on such a place? Definitely no nits that I can notice.
Cheers for 2011!

Great work! Love the depth and flow of this - I would love to be able to let sounds glide around like this. Da iawn i chi! I can't hear any glitches - but then you only hear mistakes in your own work really.

I would have sworn I'd already commented.
This is great Dave, and similar, in a way to my Jellyfish, with slow, sweeping lower-register stuff and a simple melody. If your 2.5 years on the island were anything like this (lazy, languid, relaxed) then I see why you remember it fondly.
I downloaded this shortly after you posted it and thought I'd left a semi-literate trace of my visit, but the MJ server seems to have other ideas. I'm on my second listen today and it is delightful. Cheers.
