Christmas Carols Old and New contains many old carols, and I love how they're all in basic four part, hymn harmonies. I have, however, taken several of them apart, using the two octaves available for a set of standard tonechimes, and used the harmonies set closer together. The Waits' Carol (or The Waits Song, as titled in the book) is a song that has endless variations (even in the title) and an interesting history. A Wait is a sort of Night watchman who would call out the time on the hour, or ring a bell, or something similar to let people know what time it was, and to let them know that all was well. An early version of the song is found in an 1821 collection of English folk songs, and has up to 10 verses. Variants are also New Years songs, Passiontide carols, and secular Maying songs. I've sidestepped that whole controversy by presenting an instrumental version. This is GarageBand orchestral harp with a two octave rendition of "The Waits Song."
