You Got Overconfident

Get Flash to see this player.

A simple protest song. In four decades I never touched a nylon string guitar until my neighbor handed me one over the back fence. It must have come loaded with 3 protest songs. This is the first--I shouldn't have left the big mistake in the middle as it could have been more elegantly played--but I got a little lost as I just wrote it.

You're headed for a big breakdown
You're going to glide hard to the ground
On Air-o-gance
You got overconfident

You ate it all then you blamed the host
The Father, Son and Holy Ghost all look askance
You got overconfident

There ain't nobody in this whole wide world
With a worse condition of disposition
Than the rich man has
But I'd like to think that in this world
A nobody like me, just once could say
Today I mattered

I make no bones about the fact I hate the G.O.P.
And their hypocrisy and war and drones
And I know for a fact that God hates war
And kings and queens, and sticks and stones

When they're used in anger and violence
It's a great offense to Him or Her
And I hate war just like God (high five Yahweh!)
And I'm a peaceful man
I hope that matters

I'd like to change the world with my rant
I'd like to pay my rent on time
But I can't
I'd like to live a thousand years
But I shan't

I do believe they'll never be a better time
To put my life on line, I'm to confident
I'll walk with head held high into the storm
But I'll stay warm
With my confidence

You got it
Love the feel of this one. That relaxed fingerstyle and the soft tone of the nylon got me right in. The bass complements it perfectly. Good lyrics. Vocal just right for the style you establish and the Mr Micawber sound byte is a bit of fun! Impressive!

Thanks for the careful listen. Yes I do love Dickens quite a lot. And I admire real fingerpickers which I'm guessing I won't ever be given how long I've been playing.

When I was a little kid, early on a Saturday morning, my clock radio came on, and it was perpetually tuned to world-famous KRLA AM radio, and Johnny Burnette's "You're Sixteen" started playing, with that thrilling violin intro. I almost came out of m... [see more]
