Your voice is the thing that stands out for me in this one - warm and powerful, full of expression. Interesting song. Good flow to the melody. The backing works. Impressive work, Ela! Welcome to MacJams - good to see your song posted!

Whoot!
I have good story about what I originally submitted accidentally. It needs to be removed from this earth, so as to not present it to the world again. May also be the reason approval took so very long...thanks for the kind words.. : )

Congratulations: your patience paid off.
Lovely first post. It may just be me but I hear a little Kate Bush. Are you accompanying yourself? Whatever, nice one.

What patience?
: ) I have heard a Kate Bush comparison before, but only on a certain type of song. The next song may not remind of her. Needless, I accept as a compliment!

Nice company you've put me with...
We will see if you still think so with the next song. I arranged this completely in GarageBand. I have wanted to get this song arranged for literally years, but every time I gave it to a musician he would get tripped up by my phrasing. He'd want to make it fit better. It was very frustrating. Ultimately, I don't think they weren't into it. It doesn't rhyme either. It wasn't well received. I knew I'd have to do it myself. I got the iPad and GarageBand in April. It took me 4 months to really understand GB, but now I'm off and running! So stoked!

And here she is, inside the MJEchobox!
Welcome to this fun place, very fine voice and singing control you have there! Organic and sultry.

You did a SUPER job of balancing the level of your singing track over the backing music, it is just right, and with a reasonable touch of reverb for warmth.

The backing track itself is a little "avant guard" for my ears (hard to explain, the "plinking piano" sort of distracts from your singing melody at times)... but overall, a very nice intro to MJ!

Karen (Magnatone) suggested more "info" in the description... perhaps some things to add in there would be how you put together the backing track (used the "smart instruments"?) and what kind of microphone you sang into (sounds nice and clear...) etc. You know, nerdy technical stuff :-)

Now, I'm off to get in that long line of people who want to collaborate with you and have you sing with us! :-)

ttfn,
Drakonis

I agree!
I agree that the track is avant guard. If the track made you uncomfortable that's good. The subject of the song is uncomfortable, as is the story teller. I mentioned in an earlier post no musician I gave the song to help me arrange it, with was into it. Under normal circumstance most sane songwriters might take that as cue that the song might suck. : ) But I just thought they couldn't see the big picture. Ha ha. (This is the reason we keep plugging away when we have no support- illogical rationalization!) I'm happy didn't ignore this song. It haunted me frequently and would not let me forget it. It took on a life of it it's own. I expect I will re- arrange a couple more times, actually. I had an obnoxious rock guitar solo in mind originally. Time will tell! Thanks for your post!

Yeah!
Hi, Ela. Glad you finally jumped all the hurdles. Welcome to MJ. First off, you have a wonderful voice. And it is shown off to great effect in this unique, Nu-jazz song. You have produced wonders with GB for iPad. Lovely crisp, spacious arrangement and production. A very high quality debut. Thanks, Peter.

Interesting Meld...
of classic "cool" jazz and robotic electronic music.

You have a lovely voice for this type of material and it shines through on this track. Please post your lyrics for your songs... there are many among us who like to follow along while we listen. ;)

How did you create the music track for this? Bass loops? Improvising the piano part?

Welcome aboard, Pamela... the waiting is over... and at least from my perspective... it was worth it. ;)

Thank you, Stewart. I used smart instruments for most of the parts. The piano might called improved. I sort of banged on the keys and took out what was awful and kept the rest. I did that 4 or 5 times till a solo was formed. I can't play any instruments. But I know what I like when I hear it. Thanks again.

definitely got a nice
classic soul thing going on with the vox.
The mix of rock and avant garde flow reminds me of the album ' Where the Groupies Killed the Blues' by the German plod rock band ' Lucifers Friend'. Search youtube for some of the tunes. I think you'll dig it.
Keep sangin !
