Sort of a dark jazz bebopish piece featuring piano, drums, bass, marimba and trumpet. Composed in Noatikl and recorded/mixed in Logic 9.

What is that and how does it work? Interesting premise... enjoyable textures, feels like it's drifting outside, but it keeps revolving back home... Great muted trumpet sound, I love that. Neat piece, thanks very much! Firsties!

Thanks for listening! Noatikl grew out of a 90s set of software used by Brian Eno primarily to create "generative music" with computers. It is extremely powerful and lets you create MIDI voices and control as much (or as little) as you want. If you are curious, I blog quite a bit about it:

Quirky combo of Dizzy and Philip Glass and Lionel Hampton. Love the song art with it. I have never heard of Noatikl. Is that a mountaintop retreat? Oo an app? ;-)

I'll take a Dizzy comparison any day! Wish I could play that fast or that well. The Marimba interesting enough is an old legacy Korg M1 patch - they still sound great! Noatikl is software to create "generative music". It grew out of software called Koan that was used by Brian Eno in the 90s. Its available on desktop or iPad versions now. I use it for most of the classical pieces I create and occasionally for jazz.

Great piece man...I like the way the instruments sort of cat and mouse with each other, and the piano seem percussive at times...interesting and very much enjoyed.

I'm glad you like the mix. Many of the takes were complete solos for the duration which I later muted/unmuted to give the piece some structure. The trumpet for example, has a long solo but I only used a few parts of it since that seemed to fit best.
