I've bought a few soft synths over the last week or two including Sylenth1, Rayblast, Curve2, The Dark Zebra and probably a couple more that I've forgotten already, oh Usine Hollyhock Pro (as a similar setup to Energy XT2 but different), Enzyme and a freeby, Tunefish.

There are literally thousands of presets to go through before I start playing around with the settings, so here is the first of a small series of, well, interludes. Each should be around three minutes, as a taster of things to come. The main thing to hear, I think, is the basic Pad sound, which is from the Curve2 synth. It's my favourite pad for now, so you'll hear it a lot in the series.

So many synths. I've recently bought the Spectral. Thousands of presets, indeed. As you say, that's before you start exploring making your own!

Anyway, a good 'sampler' you've produced. Unlike me, your creative juices are still flowing!

Hi Dave....
Hi Dave....
Hmmm. Spectral. I'll have to check it out.

I mostly don't have any idea what is going to come out, I just put sounds together until the mix works. Music making, with me, is likened to Forrest Gump's mothers' box of chocolates.

Take care.

Thanks, Dave
I have to lock that up, so I just downloaded a demo.

And Paul you know my feelings I guess when it come to your nice ambient music.
I love what you're doing, keep 'em come.

I guess synths are cheaper than guitars, Paul :-) Lovely, full deep sound. Thanks, Peter.

Synth Shopping!
It's astounding how many pad sounds can be created out of heaps of sine waves. Your new synth purchases must be great fun to play with (all those presets to try and each one perhaps triggering inspiration for a track). I'm so tempted to get on that train too with some new synths but alas I haven't worked through my Alchemy presets yet so no point in piling things up too high.

The spaciousness in this piece seems more contained than in many of your works. It makes for quite a different overall feel (good different). I'm keen to hear where you go with some of these new sounds.

Hi Doug.....
Be careful if you think about buying more synth plugins. There are a lot that sound great in the demo music files but when they are bought and used, they sound nothing like the demo sounds, at least in my style of composition/MIDI arrangements. I've wasted a lot of money in the last two months on crap synths. I would say listen to the demos, download the demos, listen to the demos a day later or more and then listen again after another week has gone by. See if you still want to spend the money. I know I will do this in the future.

Thanks for the great comments.

Take care.

I'm currently busy with getting my life back on some sort of track and hope to get into the music making business again in the near future, with a planned third net album 'Karma of Love' that will be an Immersive Ambient set of tracks. This should be... [see more]
