Parody is intellect on the offensive in a closed and restrictive culture.
Try to smile. Try to resist hate. DO not support people that hate.
And remember, you can't do this, so I have too...

Decades ago...
I attended some Pentecostal meetings. This brings back some wild and weird memories.

Very well done!

Hello Mike
Thanks for hanging out with me, the gospel gigs standout as the best. I have played hundreds, the black intergenerational gospel gigs were the most memorable. I wish I could adequately describe "The Gospel Shoes" gig for you. I have a tape of it somewhere. Amazing stuff...

Hello KC good to hear from you!
No too long ago I think we were discussing gospel changes in popular music. There are several forms in this piece plus the usual Foster cameo, I enjoyed writing this one up. I played bass for years in gospel bands, so this one just kinda fell into place, once I had the organ part finished that is... that bit took me a long while. Thanks for listening and offering an encouraging comment. More stuff soon I think.

really good tent meetin'

Daug, you entertain, provoke, offer up quality original music. All the while slipping in some some truth here and there. In this case, quite a bit (intended or unintended). Thanks for the sermon and the fine gospel-meeting accompaniment...

Muppets and puppets don't get 'er done...

Howdy Partner
Very kind remarks, allow me to assure you every bit of wisdom was indeed chosen carefully, as well, all the inanities and cliches were also chosen thoughtfully. The fine line between parody and self expression got blurred, if you will, I started feeling it...
The notion Muppet Jesus is the dividing line for serious consideration of spirituality is the absurdity of the decade. Now that, "The meaning "is"", has been forgotten. Won't you miss the Clintons in heaven?

No Muppet Jesus
I'd actually quite like to see a Muppet Jesus, and so would many of the kids I teach. I think Todd's fascist Christ is more disturbing. Strange, fun stuff, Daug.

A puppet or a Muppet?
1978 first Muppet Jesus. Today there is a Muppet Super Star film. The movement of evangelicals in America have railed against the reduction of Jesus to a Muppet like character in the mass media since the middle 80s. The Jesus puppet for kids is hundreds of years old. The difference between the two might demonstrate the revaluation of values capable in the modern state. Jesus is now merely a tool in the mass media. Jesus does not work as a tool for socialism for many believers. You might need speak with some of them lol. Thanks for the listen.

Been here since the place opened. I hope you enjoy yourself here at MJ. In fall 2009, I erased the 60+ tunes I had posted since day one. MJ had changed, becoming hateful and repressive, and I needed to respond appropriately. What happe... [see more]
